What is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a disease which is sexually transmitted and should be treated promptly to prevent further damage. If you think you have been exposed, get tested right away. If tested positively you should inform other people who you had sexual activities with.

Chlamydia may be obtained at any age although the age group below 25 years old do have an increased risk due to biological factors. Women also have a higher risk then men. In addition pregnant women can pass the bacteria to their babies.

Chlamydia is known as a disease which slumbers. In most cases symptoms are not visible nor noticable. If you do suffer from any of these symptoms and you yourself believe you have been exposed don't wait before it's too late. Make sure you get a test ASAP:

Burning while urinating
Discharge from the genitals
Pain in lower abdomen
Pain in testicles for men
Pain while having intercourse for the women

Ofcourse these symptoms could be the result of something else, but better make sure if you think you have been exposed. It's also possible to get chlamydia infection in your throat and even anus. For woman chlamydia can get into the fallopian tubes and cause infection there. This causes fever, and abnormal bleeding. But again, this disease has no specific onset. Please test yourself if you even might have been exposed. You don't need to go to a doctor straight away, you could use a  std home test kit as well.

Treating Chlamydia is actually quiete easy by the use of anti biotics. Follow the instructions by your doctor and always follow the dosage carefully. This will take about two weeks and you should not have sex within this period. Anything that has to do with fluids from the genitals should be avoided.

Untreated Chlamydia may result in infertility, especially for women. Chlamydia may cause an infection in the pelvic area. This may damage the uterus, cervix and ovaries. For men Chlamydia may block the tube that holds the testicles in place. This may cause pain.

Prevention is simple. Use a condom while having sex. Limit the amount of people you have sex with.
