Oral sex and sexually transmitted diseases - does swallowing increase risk
Oral sex is not safe at all. Oral sex involves giving or
receiving oral stimulation. We use 3 terms, fellatio is the term which describes oral stimulation for the man. Cunnilingus for the woman and anilingus for oral-anal stimulation. Multiple
studies show that both giving and receiving oral stimulation can lead to
transmitting sexually transmitted diseases.
The following STD’s can be attracted while giving or
receiving oral sex:
Herpes – This is the most commonly spread disease. There are
2 main types of Herpes. Type 1 causes sores/wounds around the mouth. Type 2
causes affection of the genital area. Both types can be transferred from each
other. Transmission from genitals to mouth is quiete rare though. Bodily fluids
like sperm do not specifically increase the risk of getting Herpes. There is
the same risk. Best to get tested.
Syphilis – Easily contracted through oral sex if the persons
mouth gets into contact with any open sores or skin rash caused by the
infection. Bodily fluids do increase the chance.
Chlamydia – Possible however not very common. Chlamydia has
the habbit of slumbering. It has no direct symptoms and you may not be aware
you have got it. Sperm and other bodily fluids do carry chlamydia. Best to get
tested straight away. Buy a chlamydia test kit here.
Hepatitis A – this virus is found in faeces. It may be
passed on through oral-anal sex. Swallowing does not increase risk.
Hepatitis B – this virus is found in bodily fluids like
blood and sperm. Swallowing does increase the risk.
Hepatitis C – this virus is found in blood. Only when there
is blood involved with oral sex hepatitis C might be transmitted. Only if dental health is not well and bleedings are involved, swallowing does increase the chance of being infected.
Does swallowing increase the risks?
From a scientific point of view it’s rather difficult to
find out whether swallowing and/or oral sex increase the risk of being infected
by sexual transmitable diseases. In regard to Hepatitis, the risk is actually
quite small, just like with HIV.
Chlamydia, Herpes and Syphilis are much more dangerous. All infections
have a variable risk. Ejaculation into the mouth does seem to increase the risk
a little. See it like with condoms, they have a good 85% chance of protecting
against everything. However, this does not mean 15% of the woman get pregnant
or anything. This is a generalized risk. If you are afraid you have catched any
STD, please just test yourself. If you are unwilling/scared to go to a doctor, order it online. Any bodily fluid does
have bacteria and viruses inside, most of them harmless. Many diseases are
curable but if left untreated they cause a lot of damage. You can even become
impotent. Don’t wait too long..!
